Cooking Class: For the Love of Beets


From mellow yellow to the earthiest of red and craziest of candy canes; beets are colorful gems that go under-appreciated for their culinary power that helps us get through the long Northern winters. In this class, you’ll be inspired to pickle, cure, roast, and grind your beets into delicious vegan meals that use the forgotten vegetable form root to tip (yes, that includes the greens too). This entirely vegan class is a small, up close and personal class taught in the cozy kitchen at Carina’s Bakery and by Carina herself, so get ready to get your hands dirty and learn a lot! (We recommend you bring an apron as beets can stain clothes easily and we might not have enough to around.

On the menu: XO Beet Smörgås (an open faced sandwich featuring beets three ways), Pastrami Beets (and how to use them), and a dessert you (and your kids) will want to dig into, but that’s full of beety secrets.

Time: 4 pm to 7 pm (approximately, may end early)

Where: Carina’s Bakery (on 1st St. in downtown Beaverton between Lombard and Chapman and across from the Beaverton Post Office).

The class comes complete with recipes, sampling, and plenty of leftovers.

Deadline to sign up: Monday, February 18th.


Carina’s Bakery is an entirely vegan facility. No meat, dairy eggs, or other animal products will be kept or prepared on site, and we ask that attendees not bring any non-vegan food products onto the premises.
